P.L.Traverswasbornin1899inMaryboroughinQueensland,Australiaandwasoneofthreesisters.Sheworkedasasecretary,adancerandanactress,butwritingwasP.L.Travers’sreallove,andformanyyearsshewasajournalist.ItwaswhilerecuperatingfromaseriousillnessthatshewroteMaryPoppins–“towhileawaythedays,butalsotoputdownsomethingthathadbeeninmymindforalongtime”,shesaid.SherecievedanOBEin1977,anddiedin1996.
