WuChing-hsiung(1899-1986),alsoknownasJohnC.H.Wu,wasanauthor,lawyer,juristicphilosopher,educator,andprominentCatholicconvertandlayman.HewaspresidentoftheSpecialHighCourtatShanghai,vicechairmanoftheLegislativeYuan'sconstitutiondraftingcommittee,founderoftheT'ienHsiaMonthly,translatorofthePsalmsandtheNewTestamentintoChinese,andservedasChineseministertotheHolySee(1947-48).WuauthoredandtranslatednumerousbooksandarticlesonmanysubjectsincludingReligion,PhilosophyandLaw,includingTheScienceofLove:AStudyintheTeachingsofThérèseofLisieuxandTheInteriorCarmel:TheThreefoldWayofLove.BeyondEastandWesttellsthestoryofhisreconciliationofChristianitywithChinesereligiousphilosophyandhisconversiontotheCatholicfaith.
