VirginiaWoolfwasborninLondonin1882.Afterherfather'sdeathin1904Virginiaandhersister,thepainterVanessaBell,movedtoBloomsburyandbecamethecenterof‘TheBloomsburyGroup’.Thisinformalcollectiveofartistsandwritersexertedapowerfulinfluenceoverearlytwentieth-centuryBritishculture.In1912VirginiamarriedLeonardWoolf,awriterandsocialreformer.Threeyearslater,herfirstnovelTheVoyageOutwaspublished,followedbyNightandDay(1919)andJacob'sRoom(1922).Between1925and1931VirginiaWoolfproducedwhatarenowregardedasherfinestmasterpieces,fromMrs.Dalloway(1925)toTheWaves(1931).Shealsomaintainedanastonishingoutputofliterarycriticism,shortfiction,journalism,andbiography.On28March1941,afewmonthsbeforethepublicationofherfinalnovel,BetweentheActs,VirginiaWoolfcommittedsuicide.,
