Prof.Dr.Hans-GeorgEliaswasbornin1928.HestudiedattheTechnicalUniversityofHanover,Germany,andreceivedhisPh.D.attheTechnicalUniversityofMunichin1957.AfterhabilitationattheSwissFederalInstituteofTechnology(Zurich)in1961,hewasappointedSeniorLecturerandlateraprofessoroforganic-chemicaltechnology.In1971,hebecamefoundingpresidentofandprofessorofPolymerScienceattheMichiganMolecularInstitute(MMI)inMidland,Michigan.Duringtheseyears,healsoworkedasconsultanttothepolymerindustryinGermany,Switzerland,andtheUnitedStatesandexpertwitnesstocompaniesandthecourt.Hewasanin-houseconsultantattheDowChemicalCo.,Midland(MI)(1983/84)andindependentconsultantbetween1985and1993.HecontinuestoteachatMMI.ProfessorEliashaspublishedmorethan200scientificandtechnicalpapersandtwopatentsonthesynthesischaracterization,structure,properties,andapplicationofsyntheticandbiologicalpolymers.HistenauthoredoreditedbookshavebeenpublishedinEnglish,French,German,and/orRussian,oneofthese,a4-volumework,insixinvitationinfifteencountriesandwasamemberofeditorialboardsoffivepolymerjournals.
