ThesocialsecuritysysteminChinaischangingwiththechangeofitseconomicsystem，whichdiffersfromthatofmanyothermarketeconomies.DuringthedecadesbetweenthefoundingofthePeople'sRepublicofChinain1949and1978，whenChinaadoptedthereformandopening-uppolicies，thecountrypracticedasocialsecuritypolicycorrespondingtoitsplannedeconomysystem，providingsocialsecurityservicestoitspeopleasbestasitcould.Butsincetheestablishmentofthesocialistmarketeconomysysteminthemid-1980s，aseriesofreformshavebeenintroducedtochangetheoldsocialsecuritysystem，andabasicframeworkforanewsocialsecuritysystemhasbeensetupcorrespondingtothesocialistmarketeconomysystem，withthecentralandlocalgovernmentssharingdifferentlevelsofresponsibility.
