StanandJanBerenstainwerebothbornin1923inPhiladelphia.Theydidn'tknoweachotheraschildren,butmetlateratschool,atthePhiladelphiaCollegeofArt.Theylikedeachotherrightaway,andfoundoutthatthebothenjoyedthesamekindsofbooks,plays,musicandart.DuringWorldWarII,StanwasamedicalassistantintheArmy,andJanworkedinanairplanefactory.Whenthewarwasover,theygotmarriedandbegantoworktogetherasartistsandwriters,primarilydrawingcartoonsforpopularmagazines.AfterhavingtheirtwosonsLeoandMichael,theBerenstainsdecidedtowritesomefunnychildren'sbooksthattheirchildrenandotherchildrencouldreadandenjoy.Theirfirstpublishedchildren'sbookwascalledTheBigHoneyHunt.Itwasaboutafamilyofbears,wholaterbecameknownasthe"BerenstainBears".Over50children'sbookslater,StanandJanstillplanalloftheirbookstogether--bothwritethestories,andbothwritethepictures.TheyliveoutsideofPhiladelphiainthecountry.
