JANEGOODALLwasborninLondononApril3,1934andgrewupinBournemouth,onthesoutherncoastofEngland.In1960shebeganstudyingchimpanzeesinthewildinGombe,Tanganyika(nowTarzania).AfterreceivingherdoctorateinethologyatCambridgeUniversity,Dr.GoodallfoundedtheGombeStreamResearchCenterforthestudyofchimpanzeesandbaboons.In1975sheestablishedtheJaneGoodallInstituteforWildlifeResearch,Education,andConservationtopromoteanimalresearchthroughouttheworld.Dr.GoodalliswellknownforhercontributionstoseveralstunningNationalGeographicfilmsandhaswrittensixbooksforadults,includingthebestsellerIntheShadowofMan.ShehasbeennamedCommanderoftheBritishEmpirebyQueenElizabethIIandhasreceivedmanyawards,includingtheprestigiousKyotoPrizeinBasicScienceandtheNationalGeographicSociety'sHubbardAward,fordistinctioninresearch,exploration,anddiscovery.
