作者简介

PrimoLeviwasborninTurinin1919.Thesonofaneducatedmiddle-classJewishfamily,hegraduatedwithadegreeinchemistryandfoundajobasaresearchchemistinMilan.InDecember1943,hewasarrestedaspartoftheanti-fascistresistanceanddeportedtoAuschwitz.Afterthewar,Leviresumedhiscareerasachemist,retiringonlyin1975.HisgraphicaccountofhistimeinAuschwitz,IfThisIsaMan,waspublishedin1947andhewentontowritemanyotherbooks,includingIfNotNow,When?andThePeriodicTable,emergingnotonlyasoneofthemostprofoundandhauntingcommentatorsontheHolocaust,butasagreatwriteronmanytwentieth-centurythemes.In1987,PrimoLevidiedinafallthatiswidelybelievedtohavebeensuicide.
