Hui-shuLeeisanassociateProf.inArtHistoryatUCLA.ShereceivedherdoctoratedegreeinChinesearthistoryfromYaleUniversityin1994afterfirststudyingatNationalTaiwanUniversityandworkingintheNationalPalaceMuseum.HerfieldofspecializationisChinesepaintingandvisualculture,withaparticularfocusatthistimeonimperialpatronageoftheSongdynasty(960-1279)andtheroleofcourtwomenintheproductionofart.Dr.Lee'sresearchtodatehasincludedcourtesancultureofMingdynastyNanjing,thewell-known17thcenturyindividualistpainterBadaShanren,andanumberof20thcenturyartists.Shehasreceivedanumberofawardsandfellowships,includingaGettypostdoctoralgrant.HermostrecentpublicationisExquisiteMoments:WestLake&SouthernSongArt(NewYork:ChinaInstitute,2001).SheiscurrentlyworkingonabookmanuscripttitledBehindtheScreenandBeyond:ChineseImperialWomen'sPatronageandPracticeofArtinSongChina.
