MikkelVedbyRasmussenisdirectoroftheCentreforMilitaryStudiesattheDepartmentofPoliticalScience,UniversityofCopenhagen.HewasamemberoftheDanishDefenceCommissionof2008,wasaco-writeroftheDanishwhitepaperondefencein2004,andin2007to2008waspartofaDefenceDepartmentcommissiononemergencyservices.HehasalsotestifiedtotheforeignaffairsanddefencecommitteesattheDanishParliament,andin2007theNorwegianForeignMinistryaskedhimtowriteapositionpaperonthefutureofforeignpolicy.In2009,hegaveapresentationtotheNATO-militarycommitteeandbriefedtheNATOSecretaryGeneral.ProfessorRasmussenhastaughtclassesattheUniversityofCopenhagenandtheRoyalDanishDefenceCollege,andhasrecentlylecturedattheBalticDefenceCollege,theNorwegianAirWarCollege,StAndrewsUniversity,theFinishNationalDefenceUniversity,theLondonSchoolofEconomicsandtheNATODefenceCollege.HepublishesregularlyinDanishnewspapersandisoftenusedasacommentatorintheDanishmedia.From2006to2009hewastheHeadoftheDanishInstituteforMilitaryStudieswhileonleavefromhispositionattheUniversityofCopenhagen.Previously,heworkedattheDanishInstituteforInternationalAffairsasaProjectDirectorforalargeMoDfundedprojectondefenceandsecurityissues.HeisalsoanAdjunctProfessoroftheBalticDefenceCollege.ProfessorRasmussenreceivedhisPh.D.fromtheUniversityofCopenhagenandholdsanMScinPoliticalSciencefromthatuniversityaswellasanMScinInternationalRelationsfromtheLondonSchoolofEconomics.
