YotamOttolenghi'spathtotheworldofcookingandbakinghasbeenanythingbutstraightforward.HavingcompletedaMastersdegreeinphilosophyandliteraturewhilstworkingonthenewsdeskofanIsraelidaily,hemadearadicalshiftoncomingtoLondonin1997.HestartedasanassistantpastrychefattheCapitalandthenworkedatKensingtonPlaceandLauncestonPlace,whereheranthepastrysection.YotamsubsequentlyworkedforMaisonBlancandthenBakerandSpice,beforestartinghisowneponymousgroupofrestaurants/foodshops,withbranchesinNottingHill,IslingtonandKensington.SamiTamimi'sintimateengagementwithfoodstartedatatenderage,whilstwatchinghismotherpreparePalestiniandelicaciesattheirhomewithinthewallsofArabEastJerusalem.HisfirstjobwasasacommischefattheMountZionhotelinthecity.Hethereafterinvestigatedsomeofhisculinarypassions,includingthefoodofYemen,Morocco,Egypt,PersiaandeventheEasternEuropeanJewishcommunities.In1997hemovedfromTelAvivtoLondontoworkatBakerandSpice,creatingauniquetraiteursectionwiththestrongidentifiableflavoursoftheMiddleEast.In2002heteamedupwithYotamtoopenOttolenghi.
