JonathanSwiftwasbornonNovember30,1667,inDublin,Ireland.Hisfatherhaddiedseveralmonthsearlier,andhismotherdecidedSwiftshouldberaisedbyrelatives.Growingup,Swiftenjoyedreadingandwriting.In1682,hegraduatedfromTrinityCollegeinDublin,andthentraveledtoEnglandwithdreamsofbecominganimportantchurchmember.HesoonreturnedtoIreland,however,tocontinuehiseducationandeventuallybecomethedeanofSt.Patrick'sCathedral.Inthemeantime,Swiftneverlosthisloveforwriting.In1726,hepublishedGulliver'sTravels,astorythatisstillpopulartoday.
