Todaythereisabewilderingdiversityofviewsonecologyandthenaturalenvironment.Withmorethantwohundreddistinctandvaluableperspectivesonthenaturalworld—andwithscientists,economists,ethicists,activists,philosophers,andothersoftentakingcompletelydifferentstancesontheissues—howcanwecometoagreementtosolveourtoughestenvironmentalproblems?Inresponsetothispressingneed,IntegralEcologyunitesvaluableinsightsfrommultipleperspectivesintoacomprehensivetheoreticalframework—onethatcanbeputtouserightnow.TheframeworkisbasedonIntegralTheory,aswellasKenWilber’sAQALmodel,andistheresultofoveradecadeofresearchexploringthemyriadperspectivesonecologyavailabletoustodayandtheirrespectivemethodologies.Dozensofreal-lifeapplicationsandexamplesofthisframeworkcurrentlyinuseareexamined,includingthreein-depthcasestudies:workwithmarinefisheriesinHawai’i,strategiesofeco-activiststoprotectCanada’sGreatBearRainforest,andastudyofcommunitydevelopmentinElSalvador.Inaddition,eighteenpersonalpracticesoftransformationareprovidedforyoutoincreaseyourownintegralecologicalawareness.IntegralEcologyprovidesthemostsophisticatedapplicationandextensionofIntegralTheoryavailabletoday,andassuchitservesasatemplateforanytrulyintegraleffort.
